Join Rapha and VeloConcepts to celebrate the Women’s 100 on Sunday, September 18th. The Rapha #Womens100 is an annual celebration of women’s cycling and this year marks the 10 year anniversary of the event. The Women’s 100 brings together women from all over the world to ride 100 km (62 miles) in one day while creating lasting memories and friendships.
The Women’s 100 ride is no-drop ride and is open to all women, including trans women, femme, and non-binary riders. This ride is open to all levels of riders, but riders should be comfortable on their bikes, riding in groups, and over rolling terrain.
The VeloConcepts Women’s 100 scenic route starts and ends at our shop and is a socially-paced ride that will depart promptly at 9:30am and will allow the rider to explore the rolling roads of Culpeper & Fauquier counties. The route is affectionately known as the Kelly’s Ford Loop and is a local favorite with just the right amount of challenge and beautiful scenery along the way.
The ride will be led by Melanin Base Miles team members Em Bhoo (they/she) and Sheila Mahadevan (she/her).
Ride Leaders
Meet Sheila, one of VeloConcepts Shop Ambassadors and ride leader for the Rapha Women’s 100. Sheila lives in Washington, DC and has been riding bikes since 2011. She started racing in 2018 and is passionate about gravel cycling and racing. She recently started the Melanin Base Miles project, which seeks to break down racial barriers in gravel cycling.
Meet Em, one of VeloConcepts Shops Ambassador and member of Melanin Base Miles, Em started cycling as a way to get around because they didn’t have a driver’s license. Most of Em’s cycling experience is in road cycling and racing, but gravel has quickly become a favorite discipline of their’s because it always feels like an adventure.
