gebioMized: Next Level Fitting

At VeloConcepts our fitters have been doing fits since 1988 and along the way we’ve seen numerous improvements to the fitting process. Originally we were just measuring inseams and arm lengths to determine proper position. But through years of research and technological advancement getting a fit has changed, and the average cyclist can reap huge benefits. Enter the gebioMized pressure mapping system.

gebioMized started in 2002, working with one of the world’s leading universities for sports biomechanics, Münster University. gebioMized wrote a master-thesis to find out the pressure distribution between the pelvis and the saddle, and how best to optimize the interaction. Once you start analyzing saddle pressure it doesn’t take long to start thinking about other contact points as well. So gebioMized set out to develop the world’s of the first pressure mapping system for saddles and feet.

Saddle Pressure & Foot Pressure: Visualized

At the heart of the gebioMized system is “GP Bike”, a thin, flexible film comprised of 64 sensors that wirelessly transmit saddle pressure data to a computer.  From this measurement we can analyze the pressure distribution in different seating and handlebar positions.  We can also use this system for quantitative analysis of differing saddles or shorts.

With the addition of “GP Cycle”, we can map pressure inside the cycling shoe. This allows us to analyze the shoe, pedal and cleat and allows us to fine tune the shoe-pedal connection.

In addition to analyzing foot pressure,  the fitter can also analyze power distribution in watts.  Allowing us to measure the right and left foot independently and dynamically.  From this we can determine performance in all seating positions and crank positions.

Next Level Fit

With the combination of saddle and foot pressure we can now quantitatively see what happens when we raise the handlebars or lower the seat height. This gives our fitter an unprecedented amount of information on the complete interaction between the cyclist and the bicycle.

A gebioMized pressure analysis can be added to any of our fit packages and can assist with resolving saddle pain, low back pain, hand discomfort, leg length discrepancies, dialing in aggressive positions, returning from injury or surgery and many more fit related problems.
